The Story Behind Wildwood Estate

Some places are planned.

Others simply feel right.

Wildwood Estate was one of those places.

When we first found this property, we weren't searching for luxury accommodation or even a business opportunity. We were searching for somewhere that felt like home. A place where we could live a little differently, surrounded by nature, with space to breathe.

From the moment we arrived, something about it just felt right.

The property had everything we'd been hoping for. Rolling farmland, established pine forest, peaceful walking tracks and, most importantly, water. We had always dreamed of finding a property with water, trees and space to breathe. When we first walked onto this property, it felt like we'd found exactly that.

Hidden amongst the trees sat an old shepherds carriage.

Years earlier it had welcomed guests from across New Zealand and around the world, but after sitting empty for almost five years it had quietly fallen asleep. While others may have seen an old carriage in need of work, we saw something worth bringing back to life.

Over the months that followed, we carefully renovated the cabin while preserving everything that made it special. Our goal was never to create another place to stay. We wanted to create a place to pause.

Today, the cabin remains intentionally simple.

There isn't a television.

That wasn't an oversight.

It was a deliberate choice.

Life moves incredibly fast. Most of us spend our days surrounded by notifications, meetings, endless scrolling and constant noise. We wanted Wildwood Estate to be somewhere different. Somewhere you could wake to birdsong instead of an alarm, sit with a coffee while the morning mist drifts through the trees, soak beneath a sky full of stars and remember what genuine quiet feels like.

Nature has an incredible ability to slow us down. Study after study has shown that spending time outdoors can reduce stress, improve our mood and help us feel more connected. We didn't need research to tell us that - we felt it ourselves every time we walked through the forest or sat beside the river - but it's comforting to know the science agrees with what so many of us instinctively know.

Because Wildwood Estate is set within a rural property, and because the cabin is designed as an intimate escape for two, we’ve chosen to keep it adults only. It allows us to offer a peaceful experience while ensuring everyone can safely enjoy the property.

Our greatest hope is simple.

That during your stay you'll slow down.

Breathe a little deeper.

Reconnect with nature.

Leave feeling lighter than when you arrived.

If, when you drive down the driveway to head home, you already find yourself thinking about coming back, then we'll know we've created exactly what we hoped Wildwood Estate would become.

We can't wait to welcome you.

Until next time,

Alan and Melissa

Come for the quiet. Stay for the stars. Wake with the wild.
